Michael Laxton, born without arms and one leg does everything with his one remaining leg. His wife Beth, who has spina bifida helps him by driving into town. They live in a trailer 10 miles from Hamlin, they have almost no health insurance and live on very little money. In West Virginia there are a multitude of problems in health care availability, access and affordability, not to mention the aging population, faulty prenatal care, overall poor health status, increases in chronic diseases, abuse and diversion of drugs, large numbers of uninsured and underinsured, improper patient use of hospital ER facilities and lack of adequate attention to long-term care and end-of-life initiatives.
